ASIG SUBMISSION

Options Paper Response - Screen Industry Guilds and Organisations - 250620

The government called for submissions to their Supporting Australian Stories on Our Screens - Options Paper, which outlines four different models to reform media regulation in Australia. The outcome will have a direct impact on screen production funding and the amount of Australian content on all our screens.

The government's recent decision to suspend content obligations for Australian Drama, Documentary and Children’s Television to give Free to Air broadcasters relief during COVID-19 is of deep concern  and will create a significant impact on Australian Production, leading to reduced employment in the screen sector and leaving a large creative hole in our audience’s local content screen options into the future. We do not want this to be a permanent outcome, we want the ability to have a strong Australian Screen sector, with a diverse range of Australian stories available to our local audience, and overseas.
The ASE supports Model 3- Significant.

I encourage you all to make your own individual submission to the Options Paper by COB FRIDAY July 3rd to ensure our industry's voice is heard, and that our unique stories are funded and supported to grow, by the platforms that Australians watch. Also encourage your friends and family to do the same if they want to continue to see Australian content!Access the Options Paper here: https://www.communications.gov.au/have-your-say/supporting-australian-stories-our-screens-options-paper
